General Function

40 hours per week for 22 weeks - 2 positions available

27 hours per week for 25 weeks - 6 positions available

Under supervision, performs a variety of grounds maintenance tasks including: landscaping, janitorial, carpentry, plumbing, mowing, edging and trimming grass, etc. for the Parks Department.

  • Performs routine maintenance tasks at an assigned facility and/or park including cleaning of restrooms.
  • When possible or as directed, makes minor and/or necessary repairs, and reports all other items in need of repair.
  • Must wear safety shoes when required.

Other Duties:
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Performs related work as assigned and/or required.
Qualifying Education and Experience (Minimum Requirements)
  • High School graduate or GED equivalent;
  • Previous experience in parks/general maintenance or related field including landscaping, janitorial, carpentry and or other experience preferred;
  • Must be able to operate small equipment;
  • Valid Washington State driver's license at the time of hire and have a good driving record;
  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.

Appraisal of Experience and Education/Training: Application packets will be evaluated on the
basis of information provided. Applicant's education, training, and experience will be assessed. The top qualifying candidates will be invited to participate further in the examination process. Meeting or
exceeding qualifications does not guarantee the applicant will be invited to participate in the oral examination process. Applicants offered positions will be required to successfully pass a physical examination and criminal history background, and furnish the City with a copy of their driving history which should reflect a good driving record.

LEGAL and REGULATORY EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

Fair Labor Standards Act: The classification is non-exempt under the laws of Fair Labor Standards Act minimum wage and overtime provisions.

Representation: The classification is not included in the bargaining unit pursuant to the Recognition
Article of the current labor agreement between the City of Bremerton and the Teamsters Local 589.

Civil Service: The classification is excluded from the City's Civil Service System.

Appointment and Removal Authority: The position is filled by appointment by the Department Head. Removal is by action of the Department Head in conformance with Human Resources Policies.

This classification specification does not constitute an employment agreement between the City and
employee. It is subject to change by the City, with the approval of Human Resources, as the needs of the City and requirements change.
