The Seasonal Habitat Program Technician will assist with habitat restoration and management activities on Audubon's Spring Creek Prairie including implementing the habitat management plan on diverse habitats associated with the tallgrass prairie. The Habitat Program Technician participates in habitat & Center operations, maintenance and management.


**Candidate must be available to work from start date May 16th - August 15th, 2022 (or approximately 520 hours from start date).

Essential Functions:
  • Help implement habitat management plan on all Spring Creek Prairie terrestrial and aquatic habitats.
  • Work closely with supervisor, staff and volunteers.
  • Assist with invasive species control work using various techniques, including herbicide application.
  • Assist with maintenance and monitoring duties such as fence repair, livestock handling, prescribed fire, woody plant control including use of a chain-saw, trails and grounds maintenance
  • Work with all staff, interns, students and volunteers assigned to monitor flora and fauna.
  • Support key operational programs & projects as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Up to 1-2 years related experience in land management.
  • Ability to operate various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g.; lawn mower, chainsaw, tractor, two-way radio, ATV, motor vehicles including a pickup and trailer etc)
  • Experience with herbicide application and best practices.
  • Ability to follow instructions from colleagues.
  • Ability to perform physical work, sometime under adverse conditions or in inclement weather.
  • Ability to lift and/or transport a minimum of 50-75 lbs and stand/walk for long periods regularly
  • Must be able to bend, twist, push and pull for duties such as constructing fences, using chainsaws, chopping thistles and other farm-related activity.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to work alone, with little supervision, and at irregular hours as projects or weather conditions dictate.
  • Current valid driver's license and ability to provide for own transportation when necessary, with mileage reimbursed.
