Job Description


Position Summary:

We are seeking a Scientist II, Biological Sciences to join our drug discovery group. This position will work with the Biological Sciences team to discover new kinase inhibitors for the treatment of cancer.

This position will report to a Principal Investigator, Biological Sciences and is located in our state-of-the-art research facility near the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently develop and perform primary screening of small molecules utilizing cell-based assays. Primary responsibility will be in the area of screening small molecule kinase inhibitors
  • Perform routine mammalian cell culture
  • Together with supervisor, responsible for validating new biochemical or cell biology-based assays and troubleshooting when needed to establish reliable screening platforms
  • Work with the drug discovery team to design and implement assays and experiments which test hypotheses and evaluate mechanisms of kinase inhibitors
  • Track and record data into corporate database
  • Generate reports and presentations as required by the organization
  • Effectively work in a team environment: communicate and plan research with other chemists, biologists, and pharmacologists also working on the project
  • Adhere to corporate policies including safety, FDA compliance and regulatory matters
  • Values other people and promotes the welfare of the organization and colleagues
  • Perform other duties as requested

Qualifications
  • Degree MS or BS in biochemistry or related field
  • Years of experience MS 2-4; BS >4
  • Technical skills required: laboratory experience with cell biology techniques including western blot, cell viability assays, ELISA’s, mammalian cell culture, CRISPR cell line generation, qRT-PCR, flow cytometry and lentiviral transductions
  • Experience in Immunology or Virology is strongly preferred
  • Previous experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical company preferred
  • Other: Computer skills with MS Office (Excel, Word, PPT) and scientific graphing software (Prism)
