DUTIES: The School Intervention Specialist is a member of the Community Based Behavioral Health and Prevention Services team and is responsible for the direct implementation of behavioral interventions, therapeutic activities, psychoeducational treatment, and care coordination duties for children and adolescents that are referred by the school administration. Children and adolescents who are referred for services have a mental, behavioral or emotional illness that results in significant functional impairments in major life activities. These direct services are provided individually or in groups of children and adolescents. These services are provided in the school setting and summer-based program setting when school is closed for summer break. The School Intervention Specialist’s main duties may include, but are not limited to: case coordination, case documentation, consultation, education, providing behavioral interventions, and engaging in psychotherapeutic activities.


The employee reports directly to the Child/Adolescent Community Based Services Manager for supervision. In carrying out the assigned position responsibilities the employee is required to exercise sound judgment, communicate clearly orally and in writing, follow established policies and procedures, demonstrate problem-solving skills, ensure the safety of clients participating in program activities, and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.


QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in human services related field plus one year of clinical experience working with children/adolescents in a mental health setting required. Must be registered with the Virginia Department of Health Professions as Qualified Mental Health Professional-Child (QMHP-C) or Qualified Mental Health Professional Trainee (QMHP Trainee). Must possess a valid VA driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record according to RACS policies.
