Responsibilities: The Scheduler's primary function is to coordinate scheduling functions for diagnostic testing and procedures for patients in all age groups (neonate, infant, children, adolescent, adult, and geriatric). Serves as liaison between patients, staff, physicians, and other professionals. Performs reception, scheduling, order entry, and other general clerical duties which support a department-based multidisciplinary patient care team. Qualifications: Education
Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions. High School diploma/GED required.
Medical terminology preferred.
Experience
Some medical experience and surgical procedure knowledge preferred. Experience dealing with public demonstrating excellent customer service skills required.
Work requires a high level of organizational skills for accurate and efficient management of information, varied responsibilities and job duties. Requires initiative and dependability.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Basic knowledge of growth and development relevant to the ages of the patients served in order to effectively relate to and communicate with public, schedule cases for all ages; and charge for supplies used on patients of all ages.
Work requires the ability to work independently, problem solve and handle problems as they arise.
Ability to think critically and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
Work requires the ability and proficiency in the use of office machines (PC and printer, copier, calculator), the knowledge of which is usually acquired through high school business courses or two or more years of office experience.
High level of interpersonal skills in order to effectively communicate with patients, families, visitors, team members, physicians, and other hospital personnel with whom daily interactions must take place.
Demonstrates ability to function effectively under stress and responds appropriately in compromising or emergency situations.
Acquires and shares knowledge of current trends in surgical technology through active participation in hospital suite educational activities.
Physical Demands
Requires ability to sit for extended periods of time and move about the department and organization.
Requires moderate physical exertion including lifting, bending, pushing, walking and standing approximately 20% of the time.
Requires adequate mental skills and concentration related to attention to detail and critical thinking 100% of the time.
Demonstrates adequate visual, hearing, and manual dexterity to perform clerical functions.
