Overview: The Oncology RN identifies patient needs and priorities for care through astute assessment of patients with a variety of issues such as pancytopenia, limited organ function, fluid and electrolyte imbalances, infusion reactions, and other side effects of cancer therapy. The Oncology RN plans and delegates care based on patient needs, including IV therapy, blood administration , central line care, and patient and family education. The Oncology RN evaluates the patient's response to care and the attainment of or progress toward expected outcomes, especially regarding sympton mangement, mobility, and safety needs. The RN is accountable for outcomes of patient care delivered during the assigned shift, and strives to provide clinical and service excellence.
