Description:

Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Blood Management Specialist, Relief (Per diem FTE, Day Shift) to work in Blood Bank Department at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, WA.

The Blood Management Specialist Relief develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates bloodless and blood management programs especially as related to regulatory and safety compliance across all campuses. Duties may include, but are not limited to, Bloodless Program patient interviews, directing Bloodless Program, acting as a liaison for internal and external customers, overseeing documentation, data maintenance and reporting, coordination of projects, meetings, and conferences. This position is responsible for reviewing and investigating EQVR's related to the blood product administration process. This position is also responsible for assisting the Blood Services Department in developing and implementing policies and procedures to improve transfusion safety and administration including evaluating and monitoring the processes of dispensing and administering blood components. Blood Management Specialist Relief will act as a clinical resource for staff and a liaison between the various hospital departments and Blood Services to promote the standards for blood transfusion, regulatory requirements for transfusion administration and instruction in methods and techniques to improve quality and increase safety at Swedish Health Services. This position is required to be on call M-F 7am-4pm per pre-arranged schedule.

In this position you will:

  • Works interdepartmentally and with medical groups to promote safe and effective transfusion therapy.
  • Provides clinical education and consultation with medical and nursing staff in the blood component ordering, transfusion reaction management, and bleeding emergencies.
  • Participates in establishing targeted surveillance, data collection and trend analysis to measure assess and improve processes and outcomes in transfusion therapies. Activities may include: surveillance of patient sample collection, blood ordering, blood delivery and bedside administration of all blood components. Tracks data on key indicators of the transfusion process.
  • Participates in the investigation and reporting of adverse transfusion reactions.
  • Contributes to the development of a unit-based system of self-assessment for all blood components used in transfusions.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary teams in designing, measuring, assessing and improving processes and outcomes relevant to blood transfusions.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Nursing or Medical Technology.
  • 3 years Clinical experience in an acute care facility with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Experience with Excel spreadsheets and Access database.
  • Washington State Nursing License or MT (ASCP) and/or SBB certification.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Clinical experience with blood component administration or testing.
