Resident Engineer Details

We seek a Resident Engineer for the Tulsa area to monitor and document the construction of water/wastewater infrastructure projects including complex excavation, cast-in-place concrete, utility construction, and equipment installation and commissioning. The Resident Engineer is required to interpret engineering plans and project specifications, understand construction means and methods, and lead problem solving initiatives to ensure contractor compliance with the construction contract. As part of subsequent training, professional development and career progression, this role will have opportunities for increasing responsibility and advancement within the firm, including project management, training of new hires in regulation and compliance verification procedures, and assistance with business development.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site observations of structural, mechanical, and electrical construction work to assess progress and compliance with contract documents, engineering plans, technical specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Prepare daily field reports, including photographs taken during inspections, to document construction activities, labor, materials, and testing performed. Identify and document all non-conforming work or testing for correcting and/or re-testing.
  • Supervise, coordinate and schedule material and quality assurance testing, and analyze and interpret testing reports to verify compliance.
  • Schedule, record, and attend project meetings, such as pre-construction, progress and closeout, where required.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the shutdown and star-up of operations, systems, and/or equipment as needed during construction. Verify that tests, equipment and systems startups and operating and maintenance instructions are conducted as required by the contract documents.
  • Review applications for payment for compliance with the established procedure, noting particularly the relation of the pay application to the schedule of values, work completed to date, and materials and equipment delivered at the site but not incorporated in the work.
  • Conduct final inspection and prepare a final list of items to be completed or corrected. Verify that all items on final punch list have been completed or corrected and make recommendations concerning acceptance of work.

    Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering required.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of construction management and inspection experience; water and wastewater conveyance or treatment projects preferred.
  • Certifications: OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety Awareness Training preferred; PE certification is required.
