Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Cell Biology, Immunology, Chemistry, or Cancer Biology, or a combination of related education and work experience to equal 4 years.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and present it in a clear fashion.
  • Ability to independently perform and troubleshoot basic experiments.
  • Cell culturing of primary murine/human cells and tumor cell lines.
  • Experience performing assays on a flow cytometer.
  • Willingness to learn mouse handling procedures such as ear punching, irradiation of mice, intraperitoneal/tail vein injections, tail clips for genotyping, facial vein bleeding for blood collection, breeding colony maintenance, tissue harvesting and freezing, surgical anesthesia, and sterile technique.
  • Experience reporting effectively on the progress and direction of individual projects using written and verbal English, to include proper grammar usage and accurate spelling.
  • Experience maintaining documentation and reports for data and procedures obtained from separate projects in an organized and logical manner.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Office and Excel.
  • Ability to work in collaborative environment and follow written and verbal instruction
  • Ability to contribute to lab ordering
  • Ability to train and guide the research of other less experienced individuals in the lab (undergrads) such that lab research goals are met in a timely fashion
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of leukemia and/or hematopoiesis research

Position Summary:
Seeking a Scientist to carry out multi-step laboratory procedures to investigate leukemia development and therapy.

Duties/Responsibilities:

90% Perform, analyze and troubleshoot experiments including:
  • In vitro/cell culture experiments to investigate cellular pathways important for leukemogenesis
  • In vivo and ex vivo murine experiments for the development of leukemia model systems
  • Train and guide the research of other less experienced individuals in the lab (undergrads) such that lab research goals are met in a timely fashion

10% General lab maintenance and inventory and ordering

Program/Unit Description:
This position is within the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology/Oncology and will be working in the Masonic Cancer Research Building.
