Bioproduct Analytical Development has an exciting opportunity for an analytical chemist to join our control strategy development group! You will be part of a diverse team of analytical chemists, pharmaceutical scientists, and cell culture and purifications engineers delivering product and process understanding across a broad range of platforms. Top candidates for this position will be able to:

  • Lead analytical method and control strategy development for medium- and large-molecule projects, including oligonucleotides and other forms of gene therapy, therapeutic recombinant proteins, synthetic/pegylated peptide/proteins, and/or monoclonal antibodies.
  • Lead the development and implementation of drug substance and drug product release testing and stability strategies to support clinical trials and commercial product registration
  • Responsible for evaluating and/or implementing new analytical technologies/methods to advance Lilly's current analytical capabilities for bioproduct testing.
  • Engage with scientists across Eli Lilly’s Development and Manufacturing organizations to develop robust control strategies
  • Understand external regulatory requirements (USP, ICH, EMA etc.).
  • Identify and exploit new scientific concepts, strong problem-solving skills, and be self-motivated to contribute across multiple projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication to speak to both technical and business-related implications of your work.
  • May supervise other B.S./M.S. analytical scientists supporting bioproduct analytical development.


Basic Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemistry
  • Candidates with a BS/MS and 8+ years of relevant experience will also be considered


Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Pharmaceutical experience is preferred
  • Experience with chromatographic separations, capillary electrophoresis, spectroscopic methods and methods for the analysis of oligonucleotides, proteins, peptides and monoclonal antibodies.
  • Demonstration of scientific and people leadership skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work efficiently in an interdisciplinary team environment
  • Ability to balance multiple activities, prioritize and handle ambiguity
