JOB SUMMARY

The Research SAS Programmer develops analytic databases and derives data warehouse from Baylor Scott & White?s complex operational systems. Provides analytic and programming support for a broad array of functional work and strategic and operational issues. Contributes to department and organizational processes around decision support and information strategy, developing a large national medical informatics database.


WHAT IS EXPECTED (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

  • Manages the day-to-day activities of assigned research projects Providing SAS programming support to BSWH projects associated with operational quality improvement initiatives and in support of health services research Implements and evaluates new technology to ensure it is compatible with existing systems and support research IT department and BSWH core businesses.
  • Performs program testing, user and technical training and maintenance
  • Performs cost/benefit analysis, review and evaluate business modifications, and develop specifications to determine their feasibility
  • Participates in development and maintenance of complex data warehouse and/or project databases
  • Acts as a subject matter expert and collaborates with other departments and end users to obtain needed resources to complete projects within expectation and timeframe
  • Designs, develops and implements extract, transformation and loads (ETL) processes, programs and scripts
  • Develops quality plans and standards and produces basic professional-looking documentation, flowcharts and proposals

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of commonly used statistical concepts, practice and procedures Experience of statistical software packages, such as SAS and R
  • Proficiency with written and oral communication
  • Ability to work both independently and in a group
  • Experience with the analytical manipulation and description of large databases required
  • Advanced data processing skills required Ability to deal with multiple, concurrent projects and strict timelines
  • Knowledge of base SAS, macros and SQL
  • Ability to document project related work (i.e, user guides, policies, procedures)
  • Experience with health care applications preferred
