The Hingorani Laboratory investigates molecular and cellular mechanisms of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) pathogenesis. The murine models of distinct genetic subtypes of pancreas cancer that we have developed form the basis of our integrated, systematic, and multidisciplinary research program. Our efforts are directed at identifying and overcoming stromal barriers to treatment (including elevated interstitial pressures, activated fibroblasts, and multiple mechanisms of immune suppression); identifying and disrupting molecular drivers of metastasis; and developing immune-based treatment strategies. Our ultimate aim is to take our discoveries and reduce them to practice in the clinic in order to radically transform the approach and prognosis for patients with this devastating disease.
This position represents an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual with a passion for science to work and learn in a dynamic scientific environment while addressing important problems relevant for the successful treatment of cancer.Responsibilities: The histotechnician will:
  • Establish and optimize histochemical, immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence procedures for a team of pancreas cancer researchers.
  • They will be involved in all steps of these procedures including fixation and embedding of tissues, sectioning, staining, analyses and presentation of findings.
  • This person will be responsible for the overall histopathology operations of the laboratory, ordering reagents and supplies, maintaining inventories, and preparing solutions, stains, and reagents necessary for various histology protocols.
  • The histotechnician will also maintain the state-of-the-art equipment used within histology, including processors, microtomes and autostainers.
Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree in a biological science is strongly preferred, and a minimum of one year of experience as a histology technician is required.
  • Previous experience with antibody “cocktailing” and IHC/IF multiplexing is advantageous.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to multi-task with precise attention to detail is especially critical.
  • To be successful in this position, the applicant must be capable of taking initiative, have precise attention to detail, and be able to work independently.
  • Certification by a nationally recognized agency, such as the American Society of Clinical Pathology, is preferred.
A statement describing your commitment and contributions toward greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in your career or that will be made through work at Fred Hutch is requested of all finalists. Our Commitment to Diversity: We are proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA) Employer.
