GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Eichler Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Harvard Medical School, a translational neuroscience laboratory focusing on genetic disorders of lipid metabolism that affect the nervous system, seeks an exceptional candidate to implement and coordinate the Center for Rare Neurological Disorders (CRND). This support will expand research efforts at MGH and help move basic science efforts from bench to bedside. The Research Coordinator will work very independently but receive some guidance and supervision from the Principal Investigator. The job requires high level time management and organizational skills.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Research Coordinator will be primarily responsible for the implementation of the laboratory’s human research studies. Responsibilities include:

  • Maintains patient files, staff certifications, regulatory binders, study databases, and research data
  • May be responsible for IRB and IACUC submissions, administrative duties related to protocol maintenance, and yearly reviews
  • In collaboration with the Grant Administrator will assist with contracting responsibilities for CRND, including grant proposals, agreement submissions and budget development
  • Assist with hiring, training and orientation and act as liaison with HR
  • Coordinates, organizes, and attends meetings for the CRND
  • Performs outreach and facilitates communication between the CRND and industry, academia, and patient advocacy groups
  • Responsible for office/lab space management and operations such as:
    • Ordering supplies
    • Keeping equipment and supply inventory
    • Completing purchase orders

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong organizational, time management and communication skills
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, speaking, and writing abilities.
  • High degree of computer literacy
  • Ability to identify problems and develop solutions
  • Ability to orient, train and oversee the work of others

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Field of Study/Additional Specialized Training: Neuroscience, Chemistry, Immunology, or other science related field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Some administrative or operational experience preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • A Research Operations Coordinator does not have any supervisory responsibility.
  • A Research Operations Coordinator will assist with the training and orientation of new staff members.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The Research Operations Administrator will spend 5 days per week in Dr. Eichler’s office space at 175 Cambridge St, Boston, MA.
