A Research Associate will assist in the design and development of novel Oncology IVD molecular based assays for identifying and characterizing cancer. A successful candidate will have scientific proficiency in oncology and preferably in the area of molecular cancer diagnostics.

The position is in the Oncology Development Sciences group and will be located in Sunnyvale CA. The associate will work in an exciting and important area of translational medicine. Cepheid’s rapid, point-of-care molecular diagnostic tests have already revolutionized infectious disease testing, particularly in low-resource, developing countries. We hope to be able to do the same for the detection and treatment of cancer.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
This will be primarily a hands-on, bench level position with key responsibilities in the area of real-time PCR assays to contribute to research and development of Oncology IVD assay.

Assist in planning, crafting and executing laboratory research and technical activities.

Prepare and purify DNA and RNA for analysis as appropriate

Perform GeneXpert assays, other real-time PCR assays and associated analytical techniques and/or tools as required

Maintain detailed documentation to meet the QSR Design Control, as well as other international standards, such as ISO compliance and GLP/GMP requirements…etc.

The essential requirements of the job include:
Bachelors with knowledge and experience in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or the equivalent education are required and 0-2 yrs of lab experience.

Ability in developing new assays and/or test methods/procedures to build and deliver products on aggressive timelines.

Knowledge of principles of quality control and quality assurance

Excellent analytical abilities and thorough understanding of statistical methods used in development of molecular methods.

Knowledge of biological and chemical safety

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

2+ years research industry experience in medical device domain, Oncology experience would be advantageous.

Familiarity with circulating tumor DNA mutation and hematologic malignancy analysis

Experience in assay development experience utilizing PCR, qPCR, RT-qPCR in a regulated laboratory
