Job Description:

CMC Materials, Inc. is seeking a Research Associate to provide laboratory support and assist in the development and commercialization of commercially viable products for chemical-mechanical planarization (CMP) applications. This role will perform lab-based polishing experiments, pilot plant experiments, product reliability tests, formulation experiments, fundamental wet-chemistry or instrument studies, data collection, summarization, analysis, and maintenance of the laboratory.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Table-top polishing experiments assessing reproducibility, recipe/methodology development, and wafer metrology

  • Participate in running of laboratory tests for characterizing CMP slurries and predicting performance

  • Complete experiments to both support new slurry screening process and - be able to grow to understand the mechanistic aspect of slurry behavior such as colloidal stability, shelf stability, and pot-life stability

  • Perform preliminary interpretation of data, recognize and correct test abnormalities, and present results to the team

  • Prepare requested slurry samples and coordinate production of slurries used in polishing experiments

  • Maintain and control inventory of chemicals used for the production of experimental products

  • Collaborate with colleagues in the maintenance and upkeep of laboratory tools and instruments

Education & Experience:

BA/BS in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Material Science, or Engineering Technology

or

Associates degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Material Science or Engineering technology with additional relevant experience. 2-5 years of hands-on experience with wet chemistry and instrumentation used in chemistry laboratories.

Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to plan experiments, basic analysis of experimental data using statistical techniques to help find solutions to problems.

Skilled in a broad scope of instrument instrumentation to be used in a wet lab environment to measure particles, slurries, and chemical compositions.

Communicates effectively, often, and in a candid and professional manner.

Flexible, highly creative, innovative, and committed to continuous learning

Knowledge of Windows and associated software (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
