Indianapolis is a welcoming city with a growing economy, a dynamic sports scene, a foodie vibe, museums and monuments rivaled only by Washington D.C., and—most importantly—four beautiful seasons. There is so much to do, it was voted a ‘best place to travel’ in 2021 by both Conde Naste Traveler and Travel+Leisure magazines. With a population of 855,000, it is the 15th largest city in the U.S. More than 90 national companies are headquartered here, contributing to an exceptionally low unemployment rate of 4.2% and a cost of living 7.6% below the national average. Frequent travelers take note that Indianapolis International Airport has been recognized as the best airport in North America.

If you will be relocating, consider these popular neighborhoods:

  • Downtown – easy access to great dining, museums, Lucas Oil Stadium and the White River.
  • Bates Hendricks - growing, transitional neighborhood of young professionals near downtown.
  • Fountain Square - this cuisine-rich district and home of The Murphy Art Center offers a small town feel in the middle of the big city.
  • Broad Ripple - breweries, comedy clubs and bars abound in this artsy part of town featuring single-family bungalows along with smaller, older apartments and lofts.
