Responsibilities and Duties
This is a crucial role in the success of Elk Grove Veterinary Specialty & Emergency. You serve as an integral member of this team, supporting the Client Service Representatives, the Technicians, and the Veterinarians. This position requires a love of animals and the ability to warmly welcome and compassionately care for a wide variety of pets. This position also requires excellent communication and client-service skills to answer phone calls, retrieve histories, facilitate transactions, admit and discharge pets and reassure nervous clients that their pets will be well cared for. You will demonstrate professional and courteous behavior toward clients and coworkers while handling multiple tasks, while managing interruptions.
Qualifications and Skills
Education equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.
Previous experiencing as an assistant or technician strongly preferred.
Flexible availability including overnights, weekends, and holidays. Rarely, on-call may be required.
Excellent animal-handling skills, with an emphasis on fear free techniques, and the ability to properly restrain patients.
Ability to complete assigned tasks in the time allotted without direct supervision.
Demonstrate the ability to show empathy toward clients and treat animals with respect and compassion.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, as gossiping or triangulated conversations will not be tolerated.
A commitment to outstanding client service.
Ability to lift objects weighing 40 pounds without assistance and objects weighing more than 40 pounds with assistance.
Ability to stay on task and work energetically for entire shift, sometimes exceeding 12 hours per day.
This is a relief position for Certified Veterinary Technicians or equivalent skilled and experienced non-certified veterinary assistants that are qualified to fill in shifts as part of a relief pool. This person must be able to perform all duties listed in description summary and be available for 12 hour shifts, days, overnights, weekends and holidays.
