  • Penn Medicine Princeton Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team in the Emergency Department in Plainsboro, NJ. This is a per diem opportunity.

    Our 20,000 square-foot Center for Emergency Care at Penn Medicine Princeton Health provides state-of-the-art emergency medicine and is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Emergency Department is staffed around-the-clock by board-certified emergency medicine physicians, physician assistants’/nurse practitioners, registered nurses; who are trained in trauma, emergency care and disaster preparedness, and patient care technicians. PMC’s Center for Emergency Care sees close to 50,000 patients each year from throughout the greater Mercer/Middlesex county region. Our acuity levels are based on a 1-5 Emergency Severity Index with 1 as the highest acuity and 5 as the lowest acuity.

    The Emergency Department is located on the 1st floor of the Atkinson Pavilion at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center and features 35 spacious single patient rooms, 4 of which are designated for pediatric patients and 6 for patients with behavioral health needs. For patients coming to the Center for Emergency Care with minor injuries or illnesses, PMC provides a treatment area called Fast Track (rapid medical evaluation unit). This area is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. It is staffed by an advanced practice clinician and a supervising emergency physician. In most cases, Fast Track patients are evaluated, treated and released within 90 minutes of their arrival.

    As a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department you will be responsible for treating patients with any medical problems that cannot wait to be seen by their regular doctor, as well as severe and life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Registered Nurses are responsible for establishing a therapeutic relationship and an individualized plan of care with the patient for a defined period of time (length of stay on that unit) and for communicating that plan of care to his/her collaborative partners. Registered Nurses are accountable for planning, delivering, coordinating, evaluating, and modifying the patient’s care for that defined period of time and for effectively transitioning that plan of care with attention to continuity across shift and settings of care. Emergency nurses provide a multitude of care; ranging from foley insertions, assistance with chest tube and central line insertions, cardiac arrests, blood transfusions, medication administration, splinting of orthopedic problems, laceration repair, prep for the operating room, STEMI (MI) care, therapeutic hypothermia, and intravenous insertion; to name a few.

    Some job functions and duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Accountable for planning, delivering, coordinating, evaluating, and modifying the patient’s care for a defined period of time
  • Uses evidence-based assessment techniques to collect and document comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health
  • Analyzes the assessment data to determine diagnoses or issues.
  • rehabilitation nurse along with the interdisciplinary team follows the plan of care created by the rehabilitation physician, making revisions based upon the response to treatment of the persons served.
  • Develops plan of care that is prescriptive of strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes in conjunction with persons-served/family and the healthcare team.
  • Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patients served, considering persons-served/family cultural values, ethics, environment, and other associated risks, benefits, costs and current scientific evidence.
  • Coordinates implementation of the individualized plan of care and documents interventions and any modifications of the identified plan.
  • Utilizes the plan to guide those involved in the care of the patient across the continuum
  • Evaluates and documents progress toward attainment of outcomes, including the patient and others involved in the care or situation.
  • In order to achieve the outcomes defined in the plan of care, the registered nurse will assure that persons served experience exceptional cooperation among all members of the health care team who treat them and each other with dignity, respect and sensitivity.
  • Responsible for effectively transitioning plan of care with attention to continuity across shift and settings of care









  • Educational Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) - required or at least in pursuit
  • Licensure, Certification or Registration Requirements:
  • Active NJ Registered Nurse license
  • Basic Life Saving certification (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (PALS)
  • Related Work Experience
  • Minimum of 15 months of recent nursing experience - required
