  • POSITION OVERVIEW
      The Registered Nurse assesses the health needs of the adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with knowledge and skill, and develops and implements plans to meet these needs. The RN also evaluates outcomes as they reflect the established goals. Also assesses additional role of leader educator and consultant, and coordinates daily patient care as provided by all departments. Some of the major job functions include but are not limited to:
      • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care for groups of patients of varying ages
      • Participates in educational activities for self, staff and unit development
      • Utilizes communication skills with staff, other health care team members and patients
      • Maintains yearly AHA BLS Healthcare Providers certification, unit specific certifications, safety and infection in-services, plus adequate contact hours to meet RN requirements
      • Follows safety and infection control policies and procedures
      • Follows hospital and department policies and procedures
      • Other job duties as assigned
      • Prepares and maintains operating room for all surgical procedures
      • Establishes and utilizes a checklist to monitor the physical plan of the operating room and equipment for conformity to all national standards for ensuring safety for the patient and personnel.
      • Assembles the type and quantity of material and special equipment needed for daily procedures and possible emergencies.
      • Circulates and scrubs for surgical procedures
      • Discusses operative procedures with patients and informs them of what to expect during surgery
      • Directs and instructs personnel in preparing, sterilizing, and caring for operating room equipment and supplies.
      • Maintains concise and complete records and reports

  • REQUIREMENTS
      Education:
      • Completion of a nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing
      Experience:
      • Minimum 2 years in the OR or graduate/current enrollment of peri-op 101.
      Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
      • Ability to perform basic nursing skills on groups of patients and ability to assume charge responsibility
      • Ability to multitask and prioritize quickly
      • Ability to administer medication utilizing the five rights
      • Ability to communicate verbally and in written form
      • Basic computer knowledge
      Licensure:
      • Registered Nurse with a current licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia or current licensure in a compact state with multistate privileges recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia
      Certifications:
      • Current BLS through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
