Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager (or designee) this position is responsible for assessment and troubling-shooting all IV Access devices. Providing care to the following patients with: Peripheral IV (all age groups) Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) Midlines and Intraosseous infusion system (I-O) for both Adult and Geriatric. Duties include (under supervision) Five or more successful PICC catheter insertions I-O Midline catheters and peripheral IV (INT) catheters.
To act as a resource and consultant for staff with regard to IV devices and products
Responsibilities:
PICC Midline and peripheral IV insertions
Magnetic tracking device w/ EKG interpretation for PICC tip confirmation
Ultrasound / Visualization
Placement of Intraosseous Infusion System
Collection of data for analysis and best practice
Participation in department quality assessment program
Trouble-shooting: evaluates plans and implements interventions for solving IV related patient care problems: including use of de-clotting agent for Central Venous Catheters
Provides IV therapy instruction and/or information to nursing staff students physicians patients and their families.
Participates in research and quality improvement studies related to IV devices.
Keeps current on advances in IV devices and therapies.
Participates in the Shadowing Program offered by the IV Team
Meets with sales representative to evaluate new products or discuss product capabilities or deficiencies.
Allocates resources to meet patient/staff requests for IV line placements resolves complications with IV lines and educational issues.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to determine appropriate IV access
Other information:BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred
Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the caring process.
Certification by a National Organization within two years of employment in the IVT Department: Infusion Nurses Society (INS) and or Association for Vascular Access (VA-BC)
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Four years of clinical Medical / Surgical
Current Basic Life Support Health Care Provider
Effective communication skills and ability to multi-task
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Certification for PICC and Midline line insertion Certification for PICC and Midline line insertions are offered through the Hospital under the direction of a Registered Nurse currently certified in PICC and Midline line insertions.
This requires demonstrated knowledge of anatomy and physiology of central line placement and peripheral vasculature; aseptic technique and ultrasound usage.
Successful insertion of five or more PICC Catheters under supervision; and knowledge of care and maintenance of catheters
Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy related to central line placements and peripheral vasculature;
Aseptic technique
Experience with trouble-shooting all central line catheters
Knowledge of Ultrasound abilities and usage
Knowledge of Magnetic tracking and ECG interpretation for catheter tip position
Knowledge of care and maintenance of all central venous access catheters
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Visual and aural ability to monitor patient status.
Physical ability to assist in lifting and positioning patients.
Exposed to patient care environment.
Physical ability for extensive walking carrying a 2-3 lb satchel of IV Equipment
Ability to push / pull travel carts containing all IV equipment
Ability to communicate clearly and confidently
Ability to not only work independently but also within a team
