The Intensive Care RN demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. The incumbent is a proficient nurse, who understand a situation as a whole because they perceive its meaning in terms of long-term goals. The RN recognize when the expected normal picture does not materialize; and decision-making is less labored.

The Intensive Care RN is an RN who will utilize the nursing process and evidence based practice in order to develop individual plans of care for patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The Intensive Care RN is a key member of the multidisciplinary team and is; therefore, responsible for patient advocacy, collaboration with other team members, promoting effective communication and ethical practice. The ICU RN functions within their scope of practice to provide high quality direct patient care including patient assessment, documentation, and medication administration. The ICU RN in collaboration with patients and family members will build a patient education plan that meets their individual and education needs. Assumes Charge Nurse duties and responsibilities. The ICU RN is a member of the Rapid Response Team (RRT) and Code Blue Team and is required to maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. The ICU RN provides after hours post-operative recovery care to patients when applicable.
