Registered Nurse (ER) (PRN) Details

The Registered Nurse is responsible for coordinating and providing safe and effective nursing care to all patients utilizing the nursing process. The Registered Nurse is also responsible for the direction and supervision of assigned personnel in the delivery of patient care as well as educating patients and the public about health concerns and providing emotional support to patients and their family members.

The essential duties and responsibilities are:

  • Collects patient health data
    • Determines the priority of data collection based on the patient’s immediate condition or needs
    • Collects pertinent data using appropriate assessment techniques
    • Involves the patient, significant others, and healthcare providers in data collection, when appropriate
    • Documents relevant data in the medical record according to hospital standards
  • Evidences the knowledge and ability to assess and interpret data about the patient’s growth and development from infant to geriatric
  • Analyzes the assessment data in determining the patient’s health problems
  • Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the patient
    • Documents outcomes as measurable goals
    • Formulates outcomes mutually with the patient and healthcare providers when possible
  • Plans patient care to attain expected outcome
    • Indicates knowledge of the physiology, pathology, and psychology relevant to the patient’s health problems
    • Relates observations to physiological, pathological, or psychological changes
    • Facilitates patient and family participation
    • Individualizes and documents the plan to the patient’s condition or need
  • Implements plan of care
    • Establishes interventions that are consistent with the plan of care
    • Carries out nursing care in a safe and appropriate manner which provides for the patient’s:
      • Personal hygiene
      • Correct body posture
      • Nutritional needs
      • Psychosocial, physical, and spiritual needs
  • Performs treatments or nursing procedures in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner
  • Follows hospital policy and procedure for administering medications which provide for:
    • Effectiveness of treatment
    • The maintenance of safety
  • Follows hospital policy and procedure for IV therapy
  • Documents all interventions
  • Evaluates care: Assess, evaluates, revises and documents plan accordingly
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the use of equipment which is used on the nursing unit
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the appropriate physiology, pathology, and psychology when teaching the patient and/or family
  • Helps the patient and family to:
    • Understand his/her illness or treatment
    • Plan for care following discharge

Required:

    • Associate’s Degree from an accredited school of nursing.
    • Currently registered in the State of Ohio
    • Knowledge and ability to make sound nursing decisions under emergency situations.
    • Currently registered in the state of Ohio
    • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS* Certifications

  • BLS certification is required upon hire. ACLS & PALS certifications are required to be achieved as soon as possible but not later than six (6) months after hire date. All certifications required in this job description must be maintained by the employee throughout their employment.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Previous ED experience
  • EMR experience
  • Effective communication skills
  • Computer skills
  • Customer service oriented/experience
  • Strong patient advocate
