Summit is looking for a Regional Vice President of Aggregate Operations to join our South Enterprise team. The candidate will be in Houston, Texas or is willing to relocate to Houston, Texas. The RVP of Aggregate Operations is accountable for the development and implementation of the strategic plan as well as the achievement of short and long-term goals for safety, cost control, capital investments, compliance, asset, and management of all quarries within the region.

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for the management of aggregate operations. The position is accountable for the development and implementation of the strategic plan as well as the achievement of short and long-term goals for safety, cost control, capital investments, compliance, asset, and management of all quarries within the region. This position reports directly to the South Regional President.

Responsibilities:

  • Works effectively as a member of the management team to maintain the highest standard of professionalism.
  • Manage 22 locations with 6 direct reports and 290 field members
  • Strive towards “being a leader in safety”.
  • Promotes safety innovations, including effective concepts in productivity and quality of staff.
  • Understand, participates in the design of supports and implements operating policies and procedures.
  • Provides and maintains numbers and reports to ensure information is accessible to all levels of management.
  • Proactively manage safety and health initiatives to continuously improve performance and promote the highest level of safety in the aggregates business.
  • Continuously drive improvement of operational processes to achieve cost leadership and optimized product quality.
  • Develop and execute a strategic plan which is aligned with the other product lines for growth.
  • Participate in the identification and acquisition of aggregate deposits to maintain inventory of reserves according to strategic plan targets.
  • Provide direction and leadership to the production, maintenance, and quality control functions.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with VP Sales and the sales team
  • Ensure compliance with environmental standards and government regulations related to permitting, on-going operations and reclamation.
  • Identify capital projects, oversee the development of ICMs and management of approved projects.
  • Effectively participate in cross-business teams and other initiatives that contribute to the achievement of the overall Region goals.
  • Maintain relationships with the local community, industry organizations and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure compliance requirements are met including implementation of Group guidelines, completion of required training, and monitoring compliance.
  • Continually improves aggregate standards and best practices for competitive advantage.
  • Review Inventory, Overtime and Productivity weekly.
  • Approval of large dollar amount purchase orders.
  • Oversight of the QA function
  • Drive FIXX initiative to ensure proper R and M process
  • Monitor and maintain succession plan, training, development
  • Lead the identification and implementation of best practices
  • Direction of administrative staff to ensure correct information is collected, analyzed, reported, and stored.
  • Site visits, including audit of division-level performance.
  • Ensure accurate and timely information is being delivered to other managers.
  • Identify immediate areas of concern.
  • Identify trends in the data and develop responses to them.
  • Strong ability to manage people and analyze numbers.
  • Highly organized with strong time and process management skills.
  • Develop and implement formal acquisition and disposal process.
  • Prepare annual Capex requests; and
  • Ensure ops/sales collaboration to ensure focus on inventory control
  • All other duties as assigned.


Desired Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field
  • Previous related experience in the aggregate field is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years progressively responsible business experience, including three to five years’ experience in a management position
  • Strong knowledge in the Mining of Sand and Stone via open pit and dredging
  • Extensive knowledge in mining and processing of aggregates
  • Extensive knowledge in customer management, market conditions and issues around the development and maintenance of reserves
  • Performance and result driven; strong strategic thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Must be well versed in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the public always.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Maintain current driver’s license that meets state requirements.
  • Have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards.
  • Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co–workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA.
  • Previous related experience in construction field is preferred.
