The Paul C. Gaffney Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine of UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is seeking a Regional Medical Director to join our vibrant team. This new leadership position will provide administrative oversight and serve as a liaison between all UPMC community pediatric units and UPMC Children’s Hospital leadership. This leadership position will lead collaborative efforts with clinical and administrative leadership across the UPMC Pediatric Service Line and UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in setting strategy and future direction for the UPMC community units to promote the development of an integrated continuum of care. The position carries with it a clinical appointment at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

The Paul C. Gaffney Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine is one of the longest-standing PHM divisions in the country, with its origins in inpatient care dating back to the 1970s. It currently has 26 faculty members who manage greater than 9000 discharges and 22,000 patient days per year. A deep dedication to both excellent inpatient clinical care and outstanding medical education is the cornerstone of the division, which now looks to diversify its efforts to include more endeavors in the realm of discovery through clinical research, quality improvement, and implementation science.

Faculty responsibilities include patient care, house staff and student education and academic pursuits. Division faculty at UPMC Children’s Hospital teach pediatric hospital medicine fellows, pediatric residents from Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and visiting residents from area programs. This position will provide direct care, amount determined by the Chief of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, at UPMC community pediatric units as part of the clinical responsibilities.

Qualifications


  • Candidate must be Board Certified/Eligible in Pediatrics

  • Ideal candidate will also be Board Certified in Pediatric Hospital Medicine or Board-Eligible for the Pediatric Hospital Medicine subspeciality board-certifying exam through either the practice pathway or fellowship pathway

  • Must be qualified for a medical license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
