Job Description
The Recreation Specialist serves as the main contact and oversees facility operations in the absence of the Recreation Coordinator. This position has the following duties:
Ensures that the Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department"s mission, goals, and objectives are fully supported and initiated.
Oversees and assists with general facility cleanliness and changeovers for classes, programs, events, rentals, etc.
Assists with work orders for maintenance of overall facility.
Assists with inventory of supplies for facility operations and recommends purchases as needed.
Facilitates maintenance of cardio and fitness machines and related equipment.
Conducts personal training sessions.
Assists in processing customer registrations and payments, promoting and coordinating facility memberships, providing information and assistance regarding fitness and wellness programs, as well as other programs offered at the facility and throughout the City of Marietta Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Department.
Maintains contracts and scheduling for contract programs.
Oversees programs such as the basketball league, camps, specials events, and other programs as assigned.
Assists with staff supervision: assigns work, provides training on equipment, tasks, work standards and safety procedures.
Participates in staff trainings and meetings.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Preferred qualifications -
High school diploma or equivalent.
Bachelor"s Degree in Parks & Recreation Administration, Leisure Services, Recreation, Sports Facility Management, or related area, preferred.
1-3 years of experience operating recreational, athletic, or similar multi-use facilities.
1 year experience in personal training.
Knowledge in maintenance of cardio and fitness machines and related equipment.
Ability to recognize, prevent, and respond to safety and emergency situations.
Ability to maintain effective relationships and communicate courteously with a team of diverse recreation staff, City employees, as well as with program participants, and the diverse public.
Ability to be flexible, adaptable, understanding, and work productively in a team environment.
Must have the ability to effectively use a computer and Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn many other software programs utilized by the department.
Knowledge of recreation registration software, and familiarity with its ability to run reports, maintain calendar, preferred.
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Ability to gain thorough knowledge of City-wide ordinances, rules, regulations, and procedures.
Ability to communicate in a professional manner.
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet goals and expectations.
