Summary

Performs mechanical assembly work. Assembly procedures may involve adjusting and fitting parts to close tolerances, working with parts or components which are difficult to handle and other skills which require good dexterity and skill in the use of a variety of hand tools. Work is not typically repetitive, but the cycle of repetition may be short enough to allow the development of some habit patterns. Must be able to work from detailed blueprints, assembly sketches or other input documents of similar complexity. May make minor procedural decisions in fitting and adjusting of parts, etc., but always within established guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assemble parts for electromechanical equipment.
  • Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, drawings and instructions.
  • Tag or mark identifying information on parts.
  • Grease or lubricate parts with oilcans, tap or ream bolt holes with drill presses.
  • Adjust and grind down parts if necessary.
  • Inspect parts for flaws and imperfections.
  • Position and fasten units to assemblies and subassemblies and fasten cables and wiring.
  • Use calipers and micrometers to measure parts and determine tolerances.
  • Solder electrical components.
  • Test for mechanical reliability and measure dimensions/clearance of parts.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of electro-mechanical assembly experience.
  • Assembly and electrical blueprint reading ability
  • Must be able to follow other written or verbal specifications.
