Posting Duration This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time. Are you interested in becoming a part of a positive-thinking team which prides itself on successful technology development? If so, this could be the job for you! We are looking for an early career engineer with interest in working with inertial sensors and inertial measurement units (IMU) and their use in inertial navigation systems, event detection components, and precise gimbal-controlled applications. The engineer will be called upon to perform activities related to the validation, testing, and characterization of these sensors and will support the organization’s multiple programs. Testing activities include collecting and analyzing data from lab calibration equipment, thermal and mechanical environments (vibration, shock, and centrifuge). Additionally, the engineer will be involved in the design, test and delivery of embedded electronics systems that utilize inertial sensors and navigational aiding sensors. Sandia’s Organization 5326 - Inertial Systems and Avionics II develops and delivers innovative inertial and electronic systems for a wide range of customers. These systems are intended for many aerospace and ground applications ranging from missile systems, air-delivered applications, unattended ground sensors, and exploratory-test RF and digital communication test units. The organization specializes in selection and evaluation of inertial sensors along with developing electronics subsystems for data acquisition and algorithm processing. Members of the organization have broadly varying skills that include inertial sensor and IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) assessment and analysis, digital design (microcontroller and FPGA), firmware and software design, power and signal conditioning, and advanced mechanical design and electro/mechanical fabrication capability. Also, there is a vast amount of test and field experience that the organization brings forth to assure timely and reliable deliveries. Product developments can range from quick-turn to high rigor, and involve requirements capture, architectural design, modeling, detailed design, fabrication, system integration, testing at the appropriate levels, and test data analysis to ensure all requirements are met. Sandia National Laboratories is the nation’s premier science and engineering lab for national security and technology innovation, with teams of specialists focused on cutting-edge work in a broad array of areas. Some of the main reasons we love our jobs: Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted. Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.
