Role Description

THE POSITION:
The R&D Engineer, with focus on modeling and analytics will be responsible for algorithm development, gas turbine combined cycle system level modeling, FMEA, simulation, testing and implementation of various modeling and analytics platforms as part of R&D projects related to TOMONI technology initiatives. The target candidate will have at least 5-7 years’ experience in design installation, start-up and commissioning, troubleshooting, software engineering, modeling support engineering for heavy industrial gas turbines with multiplatform versatility. Prior experience with BOP and bottoming cycle modeling and diagnostics is a plus. Willing to travel to customer sites in the U.S. and well established International sites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop control algorithms and system level modeling to support TOMONI analytic and digital initiatives
  • Lead the development of design approach to new and existing ideas for emerging technology as it relates to modeling, digital twin and analytics applied to Industrial Gas Turbine Combined Cycle.
  • Develop protocol and program serial interfaces across various control platforms in support of embedded technology and digital ecosystem
  • Provide interdepartmental support between sales, product line management, engineering, and field service as required to promote the development and implementation of TOMONI and other digital applications.
  • Provide support for project planning and implementation activities with internal and external teams.
  • Support use-case definition for software application development with internal teams such as PLM, Service Engineering, RMC and software partners
  • Support marketing efforts and assembly of technical papers, case studies and industry conference of digital applications as necessary to advance TOMONI and Digital Solutions initiatives
  • Support customer meetings and deliver presentations on TOMONI and other digital applications as required.
  • Overnight travel (approximately 25% or more) by land and/or air.
  • Perform other such duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Process Controls Specific: High-level knowledge and capabilities with Netmation, Ovation, T3000, TXP or MKVIe (GE) control systems.
High level knowledge of modeling platforms, simulation, FMEA. Willing to work with and learn other control system platforms.
  • Knowledge of critical control and complex areas within control scheme as well as use and application of execution areas.
  • Knowledge and application of advance control schemes such as Cascade, loopback, PID tuning, multi-element, neural networks, tracking etc.
  • Knowledge and application of generator, BOP and auxiliary protective schemes.
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, training, or certification in Engineering or Computer Science/Programming from four-year college or university or technical institution; and at least four (4) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills: SharePoint, Windows Operating Systems, Java, Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, Knowledge of PI system database software, electronic mail; graphics; technical network diagrams, process flowcharts etc.

The employee may be required to adhere to MHPSA and customer safety procedures including but not limited to, the use of personal protection equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, goggles, hearing and fall protection).
