Position Summary: The Head of Development Quality R&D North America is responsible for managing the development and implementation of processes/methods, and quality management solutions for the Division’s R&D Organization in North America by planning and meeting scheduled targets to ensure the on-time development of reliable products that are cost effective, able to be manufactured, meet customer specifications and maintain company standards. This includes capacity planning, resource planning, and target performance comparison, as well as providing process and quality management guidance across all divisional development groups within the region, as well as for the E-Mobility Division’s engineering teams at the North American location.


Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee all method/process development, and quality management activities and personnel to support internal and external customers.
  • Evaluate process, and quality management operations, assign and check work, maintain and track costs/budget, enforce company policy, complete performance reviews, make staffing and disciplinary decisions with HR, initiate and/or recommend Changes-In-Status, and resolve issues with day-to-day operations and/or customers as required.
  • Train, develop and motivate employees, champion individual and team efforts, and aid in the development of quality professionals to achieve individual leadership and company goals and objectives.
  • Identify tools/equipment needs and organizational skill requirements, assess gaps in key skill areas and engineering capacity, implement strategy to close the gaps and strengthen the organization, overall engineering efficiency, and provide adequate succession planning.
  • Manage implementation of standardized processes and procedures for total quality management, quality system conformance, and on-time development quality performance; prepare and present subsequent reports and recommendations to senior management.
  • Direct and coordinate projects and tools for development quality initiatives within the region across all divisional business units (i.e. audits, training, problem-solving, etc.); provide guidance for best practices / related resolution activities (i.e. lessons learned, root cause analysis, corrective action processes, etc.).
  • Manage and oversee all annual audit and assessment activities (acc. IATF 16949 and Automotive SPICE) at the location, including planning, execution and follow-up. This includes alignment and coordination with external certification companies as well as internal participants (within the location and from other locations).
  • Provide functional expertise and support for cross-functional tools (e.g. P-Kit, Omnitracker, R-Plan, etc.).
  • Serve as the primary customer contact and escalation point for development processes and quality issues.
  • Work with all engineering teams to ensure the implementation of Automotive SPICE compliant processes and guidelines within the region across all divisional business units
  • Work with customer and suppliers to ensure adherence to Automotive SPICE and IATF 16949 requirements throughout product development phases for system engineering initiatives and related projects;
  • Establish and manage implementation of project engineering processes and methods across divisional development programs within the region.
  • Work with executive and senior management on the transition of program responsibilities from global R&D into the applications engineering center organization in the region, specifically focused on facets of methods/processes, and quality management.
  • Ensure alignment with other divisional application engineering centers (AECs) globally on defining, implementing and controlling engineering processes and methods, tailored to the specific needs of the respective AECs.
  • Maintain a safe, productive work environment for the employees satisfying ZF quality standards and policy.
  • Ensure positive employee’s relations and provide support for annual employee feedback survey.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality Management, or related field
  • 6-10+ years of experience in a powertrain testing / product development environment, specifically within the automotive industry
  • Deep knowledge of ad-hoc problem analysis (e.g. fault tree analyses) and the generation of monthly executive-level process and quality reports
  • Deep knowledge in transmission design quality aspects (mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, calibration, and software) in addition to the processes and structure within automatic transmissions development
  • Deep knowledge and working experience in the implementation of Automotive SPICE methods and principles
  • Deep knowledge and working experience in the implementation of IATF 16949 methods and principles
  • Proficient with Engineering Tools (e.g. DOORS, Clear Case, P-Kit, APIS, etc.)
  • Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel and management
