JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

The Quality Assurance Inspector III is responsible for attending and documenting the results of in-process and final inspections for work accomplished onboard naval vessels and at SCW&M facility. This position will be the Lead QA Inspector and point of contact for all quality related matters for multiple availabilities. The QA Inspector will act as a liaison between the Customer and trades/subcontractors when (G) checkpoints are required to be accomplished. Results of inspections will be documented on inspection records. This employee will be responsible for creating and overseeing updates to the Test and Inspection Plans (TIPs) and accessing/extracting data from the Naval Maintenance Database (NMD). Additional responsibilities will include electronic filing of records and notifying supervision when discrepancies are identified. Aids with additional tasks as directed by the QA Supervisor/Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / DUTIES

  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously from beginning to end ensuring completeness.
  • Assesses potential risks, ensures compliance to all contractual requirements.
  • Act as the Lead QA and point of contact for multiple availabilities.
  • Responsible for training and providing guidance to entry level QA Inspectors
  • Schedule and coordinate checkpoints with customers, trades, and sub-contractors.
  • Perform and accept/reject (I), (V), (G), AND (Q) inspections as required to work completion.
  • Prepares inspection reports and maintains records.
  • Initiate Contractor Furnished Reports (CFR) when required
  • Creates and manages the Test Inspection Plan (TIP) and ensure updates are made as required
  • Review checkpoint related documentation (work specifications, drawings, Tech manuals etc.) to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Research drawings, technical manuals, NAVSEA standard items and other references to ensure quality for every checkpoint called out by trades and subcontractors.
  • Attend all meetings pertaining to projects.
  • Act as a liaison between Customer and trades/subcontractors for all quality related matters.
  • Initiate corrective action when non-conformance and discrepancies are identified.
  • Investigate potential issues when directed by the QA Supervisor or Manager.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the QA Supervisor or Manager.
  • Must adhere to a promote ALL company safety policies. Wear all required PPE when in Production areas and promote a clean and safe work environment.

This job will require the employee navigate throughout the ship, climbing up and down ladders. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds.

PREFERED KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

  • NAVSEA Basic Paint Inspector (NBPI) certification
  • SSPC/NACE certification
  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Inspector
  • Mechanical/Electrical experience

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

The QA Inspector III has no supervisory duties.

POSITION TYPE / HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week. Schedule is Monday- Friday, 6:00a.m. to 2:30p.m.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma
  • Must have a minimum of 4+ years shipboard experience.
  • Must be able to speak and understand Basic English


WORK AUTHORIZATION CLEARANCE

All employees MUST present a valid export document. Acceptable documents are U.S. Birth Certificate, Certificate of Naturalization, Passport, Passport Card and Permanent Resident Card for clearance on Identrust, State/Federal Background, and DBIDS. Employee must present a valid Drivers License as driving is an essential function of the job.
