Quality and Production Engineering Manager

This position leads Quality and Production Engineering to continually improve existing manufacturing and quality processes and develops new manufacturing processes to support new product development implementation. In addition, this position is responsible for all quality metrics including, Supplier Quality and internal quality control activities.
As a member of the Operations team, the Production Engineer Supervisor reports to the Director of Operations. The role is responsible for the supervision of all activities encompassing the support to daily operations including planning and design for manufacturing processes, floor documentation of revisions and maintenance, workflow efficiency, standard work, visual factory, and continuous improvement activities. In addition, the role is responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership for the evaluation and development of manufacturing and suppliers with expertise in quality, cost and logistics. To ensure that manufacturing sustains the business requirements and monitors the ongoing operations of outsourcing projects assuring high quality standards and timely execution of milestones.PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Provides leadership to Production Engineers, including goals and objectives and day to day supervisory duties
- Performs annual performance appraisals for direct reports
- Responsible for the coordination and communication of activities with engineering, production, quality, materials management and other functions as required
- Support a team of Production Engineers that are involved in developing optimal processes for production including plant layout, machine selection, tooling, and standard work, quality assurance
- Oversees the development and implementation of all manufacturing processes to improve product cost, efficiency, quality and functionality of the factory
- Ensures alignment between the production engineering team and other manufacturing departments to promote a cohesive relationship
- Responsible for the development and project management of new capital equipment to aid in improving manufacturing processes
- Provide direction on projects to ensure that safety is a priority and an integral part of the design and implementation of all and any projects
- Influence and drive cross-functional problem solving to ensure the attainment of continuous improvement objectives
- Develops and evaluates engineering changes and specification requirements
- Directs in-house design of product tools, jigs, cells, and fixtures to ensure efficient, optimized production methods
- Oversees the on-time creation of all manufacturing and quality documentation and ensures that production rates and machine cycle times are available/accurate/consistent for new products per the project plan
- Works directly with operations and continuous improvement to optimize plant layout, material product flow, quality and plant efficiencies
- Develop and deploy quality initiatives ensuring success of business goals and objectives;
- Provides leadership for continuous improvement and overall management of the company’s Quality Business System ensuring compliance with corporate requirements.
- Ensure all required documentation is in place that meets or exceeds the requirements of our certifying agencies
- Oversee capability studies on manufacturing equipment, completes equipment installation run-offs, gage R&R studies.
- Conduct periodic management review meetings.
- Promote safety awareness in accordance with company requirements and guidelines
- Ensure compliance and integration of regulatory requirements, (UL, ASME, etc.) into product line as defined by management, engineering, sales and marketing.
- Lead problem solving activities and warranty cost recovery related to quality.
- Additional projects as assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelors engineering degree, preferably in Manufacturing/Industrial or Mechanical Engineering
MANAGEMENT: This position has direct reports consisting of Production Engineers
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
- Minimum of 5 years Production/Manufacturing/Quality Engineering experience
- Previous supervisory experience preferred
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing
- Experience with Six Sigma methodology is a plus
- ASME experience preferred.
- Ability to drive world class quality strategies and processes

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

- May occasionally be required to perform job duties outside the typical office setting
