• Performs research of national defense and homeland security public policy issues
• Prepares materials, policy briefings, talking points, speech drafts or presentations, and proposals on a variety of national defense issues for key internal and external audiences
• Conducts research using both qualitative methods and quantitative methods, such as case studies, survey research, statistical analysis, and model building
• Collaborates with technical staff, SPP Director, SPP Deputy Directors, and Executive Assistant to the Director
• Evaluates the effectiveness of existing government policies and programs and formulates recommendations regarding strategies to achieve identified mission
• Participates in meetings and working groups, both internal and external, with the Director. Schedules, prepares materials and notes, and maintains action item lists for working group meetings
• Drafts and ensure quality control for various documents, including internal and external correspondence and documents of a sensitive or confidential nature
• Manages special projects (both internal and external) on behalf of the SPP Director
• Demonstrates an ability to interact with persons of all backgrounds, cultures and affiliations within all levels of government, business or non-profit entities

• 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
• Must have strong organizational skills
• Must have excellent communication skills
• Must be able to work independently (self starter)

• Experience working in the DoD or gov space preferred
