Summary of Position:

The primary function of the Capitol Building Supply Purchasing Specialist is to manage the purchasing process. The ideal candidate should be experienced in and have knowledge of building materials including drywall, insulation, metal studs for drywall, ceiling systems, construction tools, construction safety items, drywall compound, and accessories for the drywall industry.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Purchasing and receiving product from vendors
  • Negotiating pricing, terms, conditions and program details with vendors
  • Billing all invoices to customers and managing sales report
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels and control shrinkage
  • Ability to use company computer system to enter orders
  • Keeping an accurate pricing record
  • Developing and maintaining an understanding of market conditions impacting the building materials industry
  • Develop product knowledge to assist customers with purchases
  • Provide backup to front counter sales when necessary

Other Competencies:

  • Ability to self-manage, show initiative and be proactive
  • Communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing to coworkers and customers

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2 years of related work experience preferred

  • Strong Microsoft office skills

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to remain in stationary position 70%
  • Occasionally, will move about inside the office to access files, office machinery, etc.
  • Must be able to operate basic office machinery
  • Must be able to communicate with team and management and be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Constantly working in office environment

  • Must be able to problem solve and prioritize tasks
  • Must be able to manage stress depending on tasks
  • Must be able to multitask
  • Must be able to receive and analyze purchasing information
  • Must be able to quickly communicate solutions if problems occur
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high degree of sound judgement
