The Psychiatric Technician in the Hospital Based Services (HBS) division performs the role of physical and emotional care giver within an inpatient hospital environment to child and adolescent clients who are experiencing mental illness and/or other related disorders. On Pine Rest's main campus in Grand Rapids sits our 220+ bed inpatient hospital which includes our 36-bed child and adolescent inpatient unit, a 26-bed C&A flex unit as well as a large partial hospital program for adolescents, providing services to boys and girls with varying degrees of mental illness and other related conditions. The staff within our Child & Adolescent programs are dedicated to providing quality, relationship based care to each and every client they serve in a way which fits the client's needs best. Other primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provides a safe and secure environment for patients and staff in both individual and group settings.
- Collaborates in day-to-day planning/development of patient programming and implementation of programs.
- May, at times, assist persons served with personal care activities.
- Is responsible to actively participate in safety management, crisis intervention and prevention. This also may include monitoring, assessment, de-escalation, implementation of restrictive measures, and emergency psychiatric and medical care.
- May be required to survey, document, and report and all safety repair and maintenance needs.
- Documents all progress notes, medication administration, and any other relevant information, reporting any immediate concerns according to departmental policies and procedures.
- Responsible to monitor for and report to the designated staff any potential risk to person’s served safety that could lead to an adverse outcome.
- Required to work every other weekend Saturday and Sunday.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education, Training, and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of six (6) months or more post high school education in behavioral sciences or similar experience is preferred.
- One to two (1-2) years of college education in an applicable program such as Nursing, Clinical Social Work/Therapy, Psychology, Education, etc. is preferred, though not required.

- Ability to provide cultural competent care with a wide range of individuals in a diverse community setting.
- Requires physical and emotional stamina to deal with physical, emotional, social, mental and spiritual needs of patients/residents.
- The candidate may be required to have a valid Michigan driver’s license and ability access to access Pine Rest Transportation Vehicles for the performance of job duties.
