The Division of Infectious Diseases has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Programmer to join a team of scientists and health care providers whose ultimate goal is to improve patient health in infectious diseases and transplantation medicine. Today the forms and quantity of patient medical information are rapidly expanding. These data are electronically accessible and can help solve clinical problems and improve the delivery of health care, and Johns Hopkins Medicine is building Precision Medicine Centers of Excellence to achieve these goals. We have an immediate opening for a programmer analyst, who will work with a multidisciplinary team to collect, collate, and analyze health records in a highly secure format. Primary responsibility will be the creation, implementation, maintenance, performance, production support and documentation of health information to support patient care and research.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Tasks will include:
Developing and maintaining large relational databases of normalized patient data relevant to management of patients with infectious diseases. Job applicant will be responsible for understanding scope of data, data requests, and translating those requests into data streams to support research questions or operationally important goals.
Must be able to work independently with regular process updates.
Additional tasks will include collaborating with clinicians and researchers in collation and analysis of specific cohorts for report generation, quality improvement activities, as well as hypothesis driven research questions.
Make important design and data collection methodology recommendations.
Have primary responsibility for data collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting.
Develop data collection and analysis methodology, including defining in detail data requirements, data sources and proper data collection procedures, e.g., computer programs, appropriate data fields, databases.
Develop and implement data collection quality assurance procedures to ensure validity and reliability of study results.
Create/build and maintain databases, records and files.
May collect data using appropriate methods (e.g., interviews, surveys, forms, questionnaires, experiments, gathering data from available sources). May supervise or oversee the work of others engaged in data collection.
Perform data analysis and interpretation, utilize knowledge of statistics and quantitative analysis. Present research data.
Generate reports, charts, tables, and create presentations.
May serve as resource for research staff and field data coordinators regarding data issues: collection, entry, quality, transfer.
May contribute to writing sections of manuscripts/publications.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Bachelor's degree required. Additional experience may be substituted for education.
One year of related work experience with computer systems and applications. Additional education may substitute for experience.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Experience with SQL is required, and programming experience in other languages including R/Python/Stata is a plus.
Experience with health information and specifically electronic health record systems is preferred.
Programming experience could be realized in the workplace or in training (e.g., University), but has to be strong and demonstrated.
Applicants must be well organized, attentive to detail, and able to work independently.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits or 18 graduate degree credits = 1 year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college coursework may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Starting Salary Range: $51,210 - $70,480 annually (commensurate with experience)
