If you are ready to work on the root causes of many public health problems, you will want to apply to become a Program Specialist 1 with the Metro Public Health Department (MPHD) and our Healthy Beginnings Program. Healthy Beginnings is a grant-supported home visiting program designed to strengthen first-time families by providing education, support, parenting skills, and resource assistance in order to prevent child abuse and neglect. You will be supporting first-time parents by providing support and information about child safety, child health, disease prevention, child development, and parenting skills.

This is a part-time with Benefits position that will work 20 hours per week. Must be flexible including weekends.

• Serves as the first point of contact with the program for all potential clients.
• Conducts an initial “screening” assessment over the phone to determine if basic screening threshold is met by client.
• Documents and maintains all records for screenings that do not meet thresholds.
• Conducts second “Parent Survey” assessment to confirm that threshold established in initial assessment.
• Ensures that all completed two part assessments that meet the threshold are completed in a timely manner and forwarded to Family Support Worker to initiate home visiting services for clients.
• Explains FRS role, responsibilities and participant’s rights, including confidentiality and mandated reporting.
• Ensures that all applicable forms are complete, proofread for accuracy, reviewed and signed-off by supervisor in a timely manner in accordance with (Healthy Families America) HFA requirements.
• Documents all interaction with participant, family members and collateral contacts.
• Completes monthly reports as required.
• Attends weekly supervision and report to supervisor on an “as needed” basis.
• Participates in organization-wide and division-wide meetings and committees, departmental meetings/conferences as assigned.
• With the assistance of supervisor, identifies performance strengths as well as areas needing further development.
• Other responsibilities deemed necessary by Population Health Bureau Director/Division Director or Supervisor to maintain accreditation/ certification by Healthy Families America.

High School Diploma or GED. Must be able to work a flexible, but family-oriented schedule. Some early morning or evening visits may be necessary to accommodate client-families.

Valid driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.

Knowledge of child growth and development process (birth-5 years).
Knowledge of community resources.
Knowledge and previous experience working in evidence-based home-visiting using the Healthy Families America model (HFA).
Bilingual (Spanish/English).
Ability to research and analyze complex data.
