Program Officer for Civil Justice Details

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences seeks a Program Officer to oversee the Academy’s efforts to advance the recommendations in Civil Justice for All, the final report of the Making Justice Accessible project. The Program Officer will work with project chairs to ensure the project recommendations are shared with a broad range of audiences, will regularly convene and support a project advisory committee, and will actively foster collaboration and information sharing between practitioners and other experts to advance innovations in the field of civil justice.

The position will report to the Program Director for American Institutions, Society and the Public Good. This will be a two-year contract with preferred proximity to the House of the Academy in Cambridge, MA or to the Academy's offices in Washington, DC office .

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Maintain regular communication with those leading efforts to close the civil justice gap and grow the network necessary to advance the recommendations of the Making Justice Accessible project.
  • Socialize the project recommendations and efforts to close the civil justice gap including through earned media efforts, public programming, and targeted briefings with policy makers, elected officials, legal and social services advocates, and other key audiences.
  • Facilitate collaboration, learning, and information sharing across the civil justice ecosystem.
  • Lead the writing and development of briefing materials based on the project report for internal use and public education initiatives.
  • Regularly convene and support meetings of the project chairs and a project advisory committee.
  • Integrate racial equity into all strategic initiatives.
  • Represent the project at various convenings and briefings as requested.

Qualifications:

  • A JD, MSW, MPA, MPP or other relevant degree or at least 3 years substantive professional work experience in the civil justice ecosystem.
  • Expertise in the field of civil justice and proven organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including an ability to synthesize, summarize, and present research findings and recommendations for a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively across an array of stakeholders.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
