ABOUT THE POSITION:

This is a professional managerial position reporting to the Dean Workforce Education & Economic Development The Program Director oversees the development, implementation and promotion of a Postsecondary Vocational Program in the Computer Science department. Work requires the analysis of complex problems, planning of various interrelated activities, and the coordination of effort of multiple projects or functions, in addition to formulating and maintaining programmatic budgets.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:

  • Develop the curriculum framework and all instructional materials for the program.
  • Understand department assessments.
  • Disseminates program information to appropriate college recipients (administrators, advisors, faculty, and program students) and appropriate recipients outside the college (accreditation or certifications agencies, state agencies, etc.).
  • Assemble and compile all materials required for accreditation or certification of the program
  • Evaluate the preparation of students for entry into the program and administer all aspects of the selection process if a limited access program.
  • Supervise adjunct instructors employed by the program.
  • Ability and willingness to engage industry partners in creating internship, and mentorship opportunities for student through the advisory committee.
  • Monitor program adherence to state regulations/national accreditation criteria.

This position is a level P16. To determine starting salary, Polk State College takes into consideration the pay level minimum, the candidate's qualifications and internal equity factors.


Required Skills

  • Candidates should have a strong background in Information Technology.
  • Experience working in information technology or software engineering industry.
  • Ability to teach introductory/advanced courses in Computer Science.
  • Provide technical support for students, faculty, and staff in-person and via phone and email.
  • Knowledge of Florida Department of Education Curriculum Framework for Computer Programming and Analysis
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of professional training and development program design.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional method theory, and practical applications.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with a variety of contacts of considerable importance within, and outside of, the college. Contacts outside the college where lack of tact or judgment may result in negative college relations to a limited degree.
  • Ability to work independently with the responsibility for planning details and methods to obtain definite objectives and to make decisions within broad limitations of policy and professional standards.
  • A strong interest in working with students.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with college personnel.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

Graduation from a regionally accredited College or University with a Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field required.


Required Experience

Three (3) years of professional level, or educational experience in the program specialty.


Preferred Experience:

Familiar with Florida College Systems.

College management experience.

Experience working in higher education.

Certifications in the program specialty.
