Agency Description Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Los Angeles (Advancing Justice-LA) is one of the nation’s largest legal and civil rights organizations focused on serving Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs). Founded in 1983 as the Asian Pacific American Legal Center, Advancing Justice-LA serves more than 15,000 individuals and organizations every year. Through direct services, impact litigation, policy advocacy, and organizational capacity building, Advancing Justice-LA focuses on the most vulnerable members of AANHPI communities while building a strong voice for civil rights and social justice. Advancing Justice-LA is based in downtown Los Angeles, with additional offices in Orange County and Sacramento. Position Summary Through HAP, the Advancing Justice – LA anchors the Health Justice Network (HJN), a statewide network of close to 60 Asian Americans, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) and other communities of color organizations working on health care issues, including health care reform and access to health care services. Under the direction of the HAP Program Director, the HAP Program Coordinator will oversee coordination of health access direct service program(s), advocacy work and community engagement activities with statewide HJN and HAP collaborative network, including community-based organizations, community health organizations, health care providers in the AANHPI communities, which advance a pro-active agenda on improving access to affordable, quality health services, including implementation of health care reform in California and across the county oral health and behavioral health issues and increasing access for the remaining uninsured, or some smaller collaborative partners. The coordinator will have primary responsibilities for co-leading coordination of HAP events and meetings, including HJN statewide, local and regional collaborative partners’ meetings and trainings; providing technical assistance and support to HJN and collaborative partners; assisting in monitoring compliance with grant requirements, and providing administrative and communication support to HAP department. The coordinator will have conjunctive roles as a HAP liaison of oral/dental and/or behavioral health work with AANHPI communities and partners through the AANHPI Oral Health Consortium networks and/or Behavioral Health Workgroups. This is a union position covered by our Collective Bargaining Agreement. Duties and Responsibilities 20% Coordinate health access program(s), including direct services with focuses on outreach, education, enrollment, utilization, retention, navigation, and advocacy activities of local and regional HJN collaborative and subcontractor partners, implementing health care reform in California, increasing access to health coverages and services – affordable coverages, Medi-Cal, local Safety Net health programs. 15% Track, monitor, and document the project grant project’s deliverables, subcontractor agreements, monitoring and evaluation activities; Manage case log system and inter-departmental referral system; Prepare and complete the grant reports and related work/progresses. 25% As a Certified Enrollment Counselor (CEC) working in conjunction with HAP team and other CECs, conducts outreach, education, enrollment, post-enrollment and case management of clients (health coverage programs - Covered California, Medi-Cal and local Safety Net health benefits); supports advocacy activities, including facilitating trainings, developing culturally & linguistically appropriate materials, updating training curricula for consumers, HJN collaborative and subcontractor partners. 10% Support the HAP team to design, organize, and conduct health access collaborative trainings, conference call check-in and other activities for our HJN collaborative and subcontractor partners to build their capacity and support their health access work. 10% Provide administrative and communication support and record keeping for project activities, including circulating HJN newsletters, media outreach, action alerts, sample letters, other information and advocacy activities to promote HAP and HJN activities. 5% Appropriately maintain health access program’s HJN files, website, including updating the Resource Center with information for consumers and community advocates; sustaining communications and relationship with HJN and other organizations working on health care programs: Covered California, the Medi-Cal expansion, other health care issues. 5% Coordinate the translation and production of community education materials in various AANHPI and other languages/Chinese. 5% Work in conjunction with HAP staff and AJLA policy team to support partner organizations implementing community education, working in coalitions, supporting policy efforts that promote community engagement. 5% With conjunctive role, act as HAP liaison/navigation coordinator to work with HAP team and partners to integrate and progress the oral/dental and/or behavioral health work and its alliance networks.
