There are no direct reports with this position.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the Production Technician builds prototype boards according to specifications for New Product Introduction (NPI). Employees in this job class set-up, inspect, solder, and rework electronics circuit boards. This job class requires detailed knowledge of board assembly, and the ability to work with precision, accuracy and attention to detail.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
1. *Reviews Bill of Materials and builds prototype SMT boards to customer’s specifications for NPI.
2. *Reviews method sheets, views and downloads computer programs, sets-up machines and prints-out setup sheets.
3. *Operates machines; stencils solder paste on boards, loads parts, checks for alignment; and bends, cuts and assembles.
4. *Runs first article boards and checks settings and values of parts.
5. *Inspects, solders, and reworks boards.
6. *Reviews methods for post solder operations prior to releasing completed boards.
7. *Assist other departments with cables, pack-out, preparation, MI and testing.
8. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • One or more years of experience in electronics board assembly and rework;
  • Knowledge of specialized departmental equipment including soldering tools and techniques, and BGA placement machines;
  • Ability to work with sufficient speed, accuracy, and attention to detail to perform job functions as required;
  • Knowledge of the proper use and disposal of hazardous materials and waste (lead);
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions and requests;
  • Effective written communication skills using appropriate business English;
  • Computer literacy to use business software, the Internet, enter data/retrieve data;
  • Human relations skills to build effective working relationships;
  • Demonstrated customer service, problem solving and common sense skills.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:High School Diploma or GED Technical/other training

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:
  • Utilizing keyboard
  • Viewing computer monitor and detailed work requiring close vision
  • Assembling small parts requiring manual dexterity
  • Lifting and moving boxes or equipment up to 25 pounds

WORK ENVIRONMENT:Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with forklifts and production equipment. Employees may be exposed to noise from equipment in a manufacturing environment and may be exposed to elevated temperatures, high heat, occasional fumes, toxic chemicals, and airborne particles.
