PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR, INJECTION MOLDING
SpaceX is seeking a motivated production supervisor to help lead the commissioning, daily production and process optimization of its internal injection molding machines. This individual will be collaborating with cross-functional teams and bridging gaps between production, and maintenance operations. With the help of this supervisor, the team will be working to achieve the common goal of manufacturing quality parts in the most efficient methods possible.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead for all aspects of daily production operations:
- Setting up injection molding machines, dryers, and mold peripherals
- Interviewing, hiring, and supervising technicians
- Training and developing individuals within the organization
- Setting up an on the job training program similar to an apprenticeship
- Build a strong, motivated production team capable of consistently delivering high quality products against aggressive production targets
- Support tool and die and machine maintenance with troubleshooting
- Create process preparation checklists specific to each job
- Identify and proactively execute opportunities for improvement within the production department
- Create and maintain critical machine and peripheral parts lists
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to details
- Explore and identify future improvements, & cost saving initiatives
- Support tooling trials at various vendors and process validation and qualification upon tool arrival
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 7+ years of professional experience working with injection molding, and/or injection molding processes
- 5+ years of leadership experience, either leading people or projects
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree
- Professional experience with at least one of the following: process validation, design of experiments, and production maintenance
- Professional experience and proven success with high-volume manufacturing and/or production
- Prior leadership experience in production environments such as injection molding, casting, die casting, stamping, and assembly in a production setting with a strong understanding of the costs, schedule and complexity associated with each division if the business (i.e. lead time for a mold/die or automation, or machine)
- Professional experience launching a new product line
- Ability to interpret dimensional data and propose/execute corrective actions
- Ability to read and comprehend part drawings and dimensions
- Analytic problem solving skills in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders
- Establish and maintain ownership of the department and ensure its continued success
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Overall mental fitness with the ability to work in a high-concentration, high-stress environment requiring prolonged mental concentration (under possible extended work hours).
- 50-hour work weeks are typical, schedule varies depending on site operational needs, flexibility required.
