Directs and coordinates activities of production department(s) in processing materials or manufacturing products in an industrial organization and by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages 5-15 subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 5-20 employees in the Production, Quality, Production Planning and Shipping Departments.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.
  • Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
  • Manages the production supervisors and responsible for overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of unit.
  • Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Reviews plan and confers with research and support staff to develop new products and processes or the quality of existing products.
  • Resolves worker grievances or submits unsettled grievances to Plant Manager and human Resources for action.
  • Develops budgets and approves expenditures for supplies, materials, and human capital.
  • Assists in hiring, training, and evaluating new employees.
  • Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data and personnel records.
  • Tracks and compiles employee time off, vacation time, accident incidents, time keeping, and absenteeism.
  • Performs other duties as required or requested by management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year College or University and two years of automotive manufacturing experience; or five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with ISO9001 / IATF 16949 based quality management system.
  • Must have some production machining experience, and/or a mechanical background.
  • Computer knowledge of Microsoft Office and previous exposure to plant operating systems.
  • Training in 5S, Lockout/Tag Out procedures, Basic Plant Safety, and general machine operations.
  • Based on competence and need, training or knowledge in Hazardous Waste, ISO 14001 Awareness, ISO 14001 Internal Auditing, ISO 14001 & Beyond, ISO 14001 Top Management, HazWaste/Operator Program Training, HazWaste Manifest and Core Program Training, HazWaste/Crisis Management Training.
  • Must be familiar with policy applications in Quality, Materials, Health, Environmental, and Safety.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree
  • General knowledge of XPPS
  • SAP experience
  • Experience in automotive parts manufacturing and /or engineering and sales driven businesses
  • Experience working in a Germany based (international) organization
