Product Line Manager, Tanzu Observability - Core Experience - Opportunity for Working Remotely Charlotte, NC Details

VMware - Charlotte, NC

Employment Type : Full-Time

The Elevator Pitch: Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?

The Tanzu Observability team at VMware is seeking a Product Line Manager to help drive the core product roadmap and advance our mission to make Observability a mainstay at every enterprise. You will play a pivotal role in defining compelling and competitively differentiated features and user experience capabilities, communicating our roadmap to internal and external stakeholders, understand our customers deeply, and collaborating with the engineering team to bring Tanzu Observability to market. Our teams build cloud-native observability solutions that give Developers and Site Reliability Engineers (SRE) the confidence to ship code faster and to operate highly scalable and distributed workloads while still having a good night's sleep.

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

Working on observability solutions, you’ll be responsible for identifying and addressing the needs of Developers, Site Reliability Engineers (SRE), and Operations Teams as they embrace cloud-native applications based on modern architectures, and operate at scale distributed infrastructure on private and public clouds.

You’ll have the opportunity to work on advancing a well-established product line that is loved by our customers and has an award-winning experience that fuses human design and technical complexity to make the lives of our users easier. Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

Our observability solutions enable our customers to sleep at night knowing their platform is healthy, performant, and delivering value. From day one, you’ll be contributing towards this goal by understanding user needs and translating those to compelling product capabilities. Most new hires take time during the first few months to ramp up and learn about technology, product, and process. People are most successful when they bring a growth mindset and embrace the discomfort that comes from learning new things.

  • Success in the first three months means identifying product and experience gaps in the primary use cases and clearly articulating a set of hypotheses to solve the findings.

  • Success in the first six months means having a backlog of validated hypotheses and partnering with engineering to deliver these capabilities.

  • Success in the first year means enabling customers to realize the value of Tanzu Observability by offering a well-designed set of capabilities that address use case and management needs.

Even as you’re learning, you’ll contribute alongside your peers, bringing your unique experiences from your soft skills, to product management best practices, to technical tradeoffs and how those impact our customers. You’ll also mentor your peers, using both past and new experiences to help those around you learn and grow.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • You will conduct customer and market analyses to help shape the product vision and strategy.

  • You will conduct ongoing competitive research around other vendors’ experience strategy and details.

  • You will research, synthesize and document customer use cases.

  • You will create a set of hypotheses to address customer needs.

  • You will work with the design team to create and review workflows.

  • You will participate in customer engagements to validate the hypotheses, receive feedback, and build a backlog of validated feature ideas.

  • You will monitor and track customer requests and incorporate the findings into actionable requirements.

  • You will track the customer usage of the capabilities and use that to prioritize the next set of features.

  • You will lead the product through various stages from inception to launch. You will work closely with engineering, design, and information experience teams, define product requirements, and drive end-to-end execution.

  • You will create solutions that scale to meet the needs of the world’s biggest enterprises.

  • You will collaborate with customer field teams and go-to-market teams to provide product enablement.

  • You will create solutions that scale to meet the needs of the world’s biggest enterprises.
