The Principal Systems Engineer will support the enabling of new technology through commercialization of advanced energy storage systems based on the latest Lithium Ion based chemistries and required safety system. This position will report to the Systems Engineering Manager and will be responsible for design and development activities based upon technical and functional product requirements. The engineer fulfilling this role will effectively participate in concurrent complex projects with a focus on achieving technical and financial objectives by working closely with multi-disciplined engineering teams. The ideal candidate should have comprehensive and demonstrated knowledge of systems engineering, analysis, and requirements management principles during product development. Provide design authority and ownership of products over the entire lifecycle Leads the definition and application of processes to design, develop, and/or evaluate requirements of advanced energy storage systems Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints Collaborate with Compliance Engineers to incorporate all applicable industry standard and regulatory requirements into product design Conduct system requirements analysis including preparation of system and subsystem functional analysis (hardware and software) Coordinate design teams to allocate requirements and ensure full traceability throughout the product development life cycle Lead the creation of Requirements Verification Matrix and plans Perform analyses for complex battery systems at all levels including concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal Prepare and review engineering and technical documentation such as test plans, analyses, reports, and change proposals Contribute to and approves the writing of guides, procedures, and instructions for proper handling, testing, and use of battery systems Prepares pre-proposal costs and technical assessments Lead various safety tool implementations such as FTA, FMEA, and HAZOP Provide technical oversight to contractors Preferred MS in EE, Physics, or similar with 8+ experience (with telecom applications is a plus) Experience with managing and analyzing Stakeholder requirements 4+ years’ experience with developing and testing battery product performance and safety Experience with SOC and SOH analysis, chemistry selection, battery sizing for power, energy and mechanical constraints, and design Advanced understanding of analog and digital electronics Demonstrated technical proficiency and advocacy of Requirements Management tools (e.g., Medini, DOORs, Polarian) Understanding of both hardware and software development processes and requirements Background of performing system analysis and simulation to guide product development and requirements EnerSys provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
