Salus University is seeking a skilled professional to fill the full-time position of Instructor/Assistant Professor in Primary Care.

As Instructor/Assistant Professor, you will provide clinical education/patient care within The Eye Institute (TEI) of Salus University, including the flagship facility as well as the satellite clinical facilities. Within the didactic curriculum, provides instruction in preclinical skills and/or other laboratory/lecture roles as related to background, interests, and needs of the program.

What You Will Bring to Salus:

In this position, you will provide clinical education to optometry students, residents and other personnel as assigned to the primary care (and specialty care services as appropriate) at TEI or its satellite facilities as well as provide clinical education/patient care at TEI during a weekly schedule consisting of either Monday through Friday, or Tuesday through Saturday, based on the needs of the program. As Instructor/Assistant Professor, you will participate in clinical round tables when appropriate, participates in the education, mentoring, and evaluations of primary care residents when appropriate, participate with program directors and other faculty/staff in the planning, preparation, and implementation of integrated curricular content and clinical protocols, participate in the Scholars Program as needed and participate in the Advanced Placement optometry Degree (APOD) program as assigned. In addition, you will assist the chief in remediating struggling students as needed and provide feedback to students verbally during patient care, through daily patient encounter Meditrek log entries, to the chief of service for the midterm and final evaluations, and attending grading meetings. Finally, you will provide instruction in preclinical skills with possibility of other didactic/laboratory assignments as appropriate, based on the needs of the program and perform other related duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited school or college of optometry
  • Current Pennsylvania license to practice optometry (with therapeutic and glaucoma privileges), or license-eligible
  • Completion of a one-year or longer residency program in optometry, or a minimum of five years equivalent experience in clinical practice.

Skills and Other Requirements:

  • Eligible for faculty rank and professional staff appointment at TEI and PCO
  • Continuing faculty appointment is contingent on maintaining clinical privileges consistent with TEI credentialing policies and protocols and adhering to established compliance protocols

Other Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Fellow (or Fellowship track) of the American Academy of Optometry
  • Prior supervisory experience in an optometric setting or at TEI
  • Experience as an optometric educator
  • Strong clinically- and educationally-related technology skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in optometric education and patient care
  • Demonstrated history of a positive work ethic

Salary Range: $92,000-$97,000 based on experience
