The Prevention Senior Counselor is responsible for assisting the Coordinator in overseeing the service delivery of the prevention department. The Senior Counselor will assist in monitoring assigned tasks of counselors and will also be a primary source of service delivery. This position reports directly to the Prevention Coordinator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Participates in planning and facilitating services as prescribed in the work plan;
  • Assists in identifying and coordinating facilitation of evidence based programming;
  • Assists coordinator in monitoring service deliveries;
  • Provides and assists in staff supervision;
  • Reviews counselor records for quality control and accuracy ;
  • Ensures timely and accurate submission of required documentation;
  • Assists in the maintenance of client data base of demographics;
  • Serves as a liaison between counselors, coordinator, teachers and school personnel;
  • Conducts evidence based workshops;
  • Attends staff meetings and team conferences.
  • Attends to client needs in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Speaks of and to clients with dignity and respect.
  • Provides individual counseling services and conducts groups, rap sessions;
  • Recognizes, responds to, high risk factors including suicidal and homicidal ideations.
  • Recognizes, responds to, and defuses volatile or dangerous situations as allowable; when in doubt will always call for assistance and/or 911.
  • Follows established Federal, State and Elmcor guidelines on confidentiality.
  • Maintains current knowledge base on counseling skills, prevention risk and protective factors.
  • Seeks supervision and consultation as needed.
  • Plans and participates in community cultural and recreational activities;
  • Attends on-going trainings for skill development;
  • Models professional behaviors.
  • Participates in fund raising activities.
  • Assists with organizing and implementing agency wide events.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises counseling staff.
  • Makes caseload assignments.
  • Assists in ensuring record keeping is accurate and timely.
  • Assists in developing and evaluating departmental work plan goals and attainment.
  • Monitors program census and assists in development and implementation of recruitment strategies.
  • Co-leads and/or leads departmental meetings.
  • Assists coordinator in supervising, training and addressing staff issues.
  • Reviews, approves and makes recommendations relative to documentation and client goals.
  • Represents coordinator in his/her absence.
  • Leads or co-leads staff meetings.
  • Assists in interviewing perspective candidates.
  • Assists in determining staff evaluations.
  • Addresses staff/client complaints and assists in resolving them.
  • In conjunction with the leadership team, assists in maintaining confidentiality, ethics and professional conduct throughout the agency.
  • Maintains a climate which attracts, keeps, and motivates a staff of top-quality people.
  • Participates in fundraising activities.
  • Assists with organizing and implementing agency wide events.
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and CPP or High School Diploma and CPS; or CASAC-T with 2 years of experience in the provision of prevention services, meeting the 60 hour Prevention specific trainings, and actively working towards obtaining CPS/CPP certification.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Must have computer skills.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check, obtain clearance from the Office of Children and Family Services and be drug free.

Employment Type: Full Time

Salary details: $24.3008 hourly
