JOB DESCRIPTION

President / Chief Executive Officer
United Way of Fort Smith Area, Inc.

Salary Range: commensurate with experience

Auto Allowance: IRS rate

Reports To: Board of Directors; Chairman of the Board

Summary:

Serve as the Chief administrative officer for the United Way of Fort Smith Area. Provide innovative leadership, motivation and support to staff and community volunteers in the effective pursuit of United Way’s mission and objectives. Develop and administer policies, procedures and activities that directly affect the ability of the organization to meet its goals and objectives and be responsible for overall achievement of such goals and objectives. Maintain accountability for the overall operation and fiscal integrity of the organization within the policies set by the

Board of Directors. Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, work in the following areas: Community Impact, Resource Development, Allocations and General

Administration.

Key Responsibilities and duties:

? Serve as Chief Administrative Officer of corporation to ensure public accountability, maintenance of facilities and legal obligations

? Oversee management of United Way’s staff, volunteer and financial resources

? Provide professional resources to the Board for the formulation of policies, initiatives and long-range plans

? Assure implementation of policies adopted by the Board

? Implement all financial operations of the organization including preparing and administering annual budget and overseeing the proper use of all financial resources

? Supervise the resource development activities of the organization

? Lead and supervise the Community Impact effort for the organization

? Staff and/or supervise staff of all organizational committee projects and task forces

? Maintain appropriate relationships with health and welfare agencies, appropriate governmental departments and community planning centers

? Promote United Way within the community and serve as corporation’s principal contact with various sectors of the community. Make timely visits to major community employers to increase awareness by company leadership of United Way activities.

? Perform or delegate any duties related to corporate purpose as assigned by the Board of
Directors

Education:

Bachelor’s degree preferable or equivalent working experience in fundraising, marketing, financial administration, public relations and/or human care services.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this position will have a demonstrated record of success in resource development, new initiative development, staff development and supervision, financial management, working with volunteer leaders, strategic planning, agency relations, marketing, and collaboration building. Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal form. Must have the ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse group of community volunteers and representatives. Required to possess an understanding of the United Way, its mission and goals, and the ability to advise the Board of Directors effectively regarding issues and /or concerns that impact both its short and long-range objectives.
