QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 16 years of age and have some experience working with young children. Must meet state licensing requirements. Must have high school vocational childcare training or orientation training course at the center.
The teacher's aide is responsible to the teacher in charge and is there to assist the teacher or assistant teacher. The aide is expected to:
ASSIST CHILDREN:
- Work with individuals or small groups of children as directed by the teacher in charge.
- Help with planning, prep and implementation of learning tasks.
- Help with record keeping.
- Be sensitive and responsive to children's needs.
- Use positive modeling and behavior management.
ASSIST PARENTS:
- Be a positive role model.
- Communicate clearly, regularly, and appropriately.
- Respect confidentiality.
- Be sensitive to needs.
COMMIT TO THE PROGRAM:
- Come to work on time.
- Come to work on a regular basis.
- Continue to demonstrate interest in job.
- Help to maintain attractive, clean and safe environment.
- Help to take care of equipment and materials.
- Assist in fund raising activities.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings.
- Maintain NAEYC Accreditation Standards.
BEHAVE PROFESSIONALLY:
- Conduct self in an appropriate manner when dealing with children, other staff or parents, or during school activities on or off campus.
- Follow school policies and procedures.
- Increase knowledge of early education and upgrading skills by attending workshops, classes or training sessions.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
