SUMMARY
The Practice Administrator is the lead administrator for his/her site(s) and responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, staff and budget of the Internal Medicine Service Lines at his/her designated practice location. Accountable for facility DPH compliance, emergency management and environment of care safety, in partnership with Facilities, Nursing, IT, Human Resources and Finance leadership. Ensures effective implementation of organization-wide initiatives at the designated practice location.
In partnership with the local Internal Medicine/Family Medicine Chief, Clinical Nurse Manager and other clinical leadership, serves as the principal financial and operational managers for the Internal Medicine Service Line at the designated site(s), to ensure that practice and site operations appropriately support high quality delivery of patient care. Maintains overall local IM responsibility for development, implementation, monitoring and integration of IM management systems, policies, procedures, standard work and programs. Provides consultation, advice and support as needed to clinical leaders and provider staff. Represents the organization in the local community as requested.
Note: The M2 level is for a Practice Administrators of a large Atrius location or combination of locations(s). The scoping determination is based primarily quantitative metrics including lives served, encounters, number of providers and number of employees.
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline (or equivalent education and/or experience required). Master’s degree (or equivalent) in business or health administration strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE
At least 7 - 10 years’ of professional level healthcare operational and business management experience in progressively responsible roles, including at least 3 to 5 years’ at the management level in clinical operations, preferably in an outpatient multi-specialty medical group practice environment.
SKILLS
Ability to work independently and to accept responsibility for complex and sensitive decision-making as it relates to the overall conduct of the Service Line. A broad and thorough knowledge of: (a) physician practice management and resource utilization; (b) organizational and management theory and practice; and (c) financial systems, budget management, reimbursement issues and regulations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with a large and diverse constituency, including Atrius Health leaders, Service Line providers and staff, representatives of other Atrius Health departments, and vendors. Experience managing through influence and collaboration. Ability to accurately and concisely disseminate information in both written and verbal formats. Strong capacity to recruit and develop staff. Excellent organizational skills necessary to manage many competing timetables and responsibilities. Demonstrated success in managing complex initiatives and projects. Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a highly-matrixed organization. Ability to delegate and effectively supervise and plan for the timely and successful completion of short- and long-term objectives. Ability to consistently meet established deadlines for deliverable or activities. Interpersonal relationship skills needed to motivate others and work with providers, managers, and staff in a positive and collegial fashion. Must be able to act cooperatively and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Strong leadership, facilitation, coaching and networking skills.
