Position Location Fort Collins, CO The NREL is a research and teaching unit at Colorado State University with a mission “to ensure the sustainability of the Earth’s ecosystems through the generation and application of new knowledge.” The department’s interdisciplinary, ecosystem research promotes collaborations among disciplines and across fields of expertise at CSU and throughout the world. As a soft-money research unit, this role is critical to ensure adequate funding to sustain its vital role in the research community both locally and across the globe. The Post Doctoral Researcher (anticipated as a 3-year position dependent on funding availability and start date) will work with Dr. Vogeler and her team to develop a multi-resolution remote sensing data fusion approach to support the assessment of the tradeoffs and impacts of urbanization-driven land cover land use change (LCLUC) across three African Countries (Ethiopia, Nigeria, South Africa) and within focal cities within each country. Minimum education: Minimum experience: Ability to advance the department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion through research, teaching and outreach with relevant programs, goals and activities. Development of approaches for the integration of multi-resolution remote sensing imagery, reference/validation data sets, public population and social resources data etc. for the mapping of LCLUC at multiple spatial scales through time for the identification of urbanization hotspots, assessments of drivers and impacts of rapid urban expansion, fine resolution identification of urban LCLU and distribution of, and equitable access to, social and ecological resources. The candidate may also collaborate on additional lab research projects if time and funding allow, and have opportunities to contribute to proposal development. Compile and submit peer reviewed publications in a timely manner; present at local, national, and international professional conferences; participate in the organization and implementation of onsite workshops within our focal African cities for local stakeholders in year 3 of the project. Contribute to the supervision of graduate and undergraduate researchers to promote a collaborative lab research environment and to advance the progress of the larger research project.
